In the early days of Islam, poetry was not much encouraged, among other reasons, the Qur'anic style was diametrically opposed to the prevailing style of poetry. The Prophet (PBUH) memorized some of what the poets said, and he used to correct and criticize them, and what was reported from him (PBUH) about the prohibition of poetry compositions. Allah Ta'ala not only kept his Prophet away from poetry, but also testified to him in the Quran in clear words that he is not a poet, and the Holy Quran is not poetry. Apart from this, the Prophet (PBUH) used to memorize and recite a part of another poet's good poetry, examples of which are found in the Hadiths. In this article, we will present these hadiths and explain them in which the Prophet (PBUH) recited the poems of a poet. Apart from this, some of the critical opinions of the Prophet (PBUH) will be examined, in which the Prophet (PBUH) not only warned these poets about their mistakes but also corrected them.
