Abstract

This article studies the way Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used the expression “Ya Mashar”, which means “O group of” or “O community of”. Examples include “O women,” “O young men,” “O Ansar,” “O Quraysh,” and “O merchants.”

The Prophet ﷺ did not use these words only to get people’s attention. He used them to speak to a specific group about an important matter. He chose the group according to the topic and the situation. After the call, he often gave advice, an order, a warning, or a teaching.

The study shows that this style is short, clear, and suitable for the people being addressed. It also helps people understand that the advice is especially related to their situation. For example, young people were given advice about marriage and fasting, while merchants were warned about lying and false oaths in business.

The study also shows that the Prophetic call has many purposes. It can attract attention, identify a group, teach, warn, encourage, and prepare people to listen. Therefore, the beauty of the Prophetic style is not only in the words. It is also in choosing the right words for the right people and the right situation.
