Characteristics of Resistance Poetry in Contemporary Islamic Literature: An Analytical Study of the Poem “Abshiri Ya Quds” (Rejoice, O Al-Quds) by Syrian Poet Omar Mahmoud Dobaa

Abstract

This study examines the characteristics of resistance poetry in contemporary Islamic literature through an analytical reading of the poem “Abshiri Ya Quds” (Rejoice, O Al-Quds) by the Syrian poet Omar Mahmoud Dobaa. The research aims to identify the ideological and artistic features of Islamic resistance poetry and to demonstrate how the poem embodies the Islamic worldview in addressing the cause of Palestine and Al-Quds. Adopting a descriptive-analytical approach, the study investigates the poem's thematic structure, artistic construction, language, imagery, rhythm, and selected poetic passages, with particular attention to the integration of form and content. The findings reveal that the poem presents resistance not merely as a political or military act but as a comprehensive Islamic and civilizational mission grounded in faith, patience, steadfastness, sacrifice, and absolute trust in Allah's promise of victory. The study further demonstrates that Al-Quds is portrayed as a symbol of Islamic faith, identity, and civilization rather than merely a geographical location. Moreover, the poet effectively employs Qur'anic intertextuality, Islamic historical symbolism, vivid imagery, imperative expressions, and a dynamic rhythmic structure to reinforce the poem's ideological and emotional impact. The research concludes that “Abshiri Ya Quds” represents a distinguished model of contemporary Islamic resistance poetry in which artistic creativity is harmoniously integrated with ideological commitment. The poem illustrates the enduring role of Islamic literature in preserving the Muslim Ummah's identity, strengthening collective consciousness, inspiring resilience, and affirming confidence in the ultimate triumph of truth over falsehood.
