Abstract

The present research paper encompasses the root causes of the educational deprivation of marginalized and underprivileged classes and offers an analytical study of their potential remedies in the light of Islamic teachings. In the contemporary era, economic disparity, a class-based education system, and social prejudices are the most prominent reasons preventing poor and deprived classes from accessing high-quality education. Islam is a universal religion that establishes the foundation of educational equality by making the pursuit of knowledge obligatory upon every male and female. This study highlights how, during the prophetic era and the Righteously Guided Caliphate (Khilafat-e-Rashida), the platform of Suffah and the system of Bait-ul-Mal (the public treasury) were utilized to integrate the weakest members of society into the educational mainstream without any discrimination based on race or color. The paper concludes that the sole solution to the current educational crisis lies in reviving the Islamic system of Zakat and Awqaf (endowments), implementing a uniform educational curriculum, and ensuring the state provision of free, compulsory education. These measures guarantee the creation of a just society by empowering underprivileged classes.
