Abstract

This study, titled “Ethical Principles of Interpersonal Rivalry in the Light of Surah Yusuf: An Analytical Study,” examines the causes, ethical dimensions, and consequences of rivalry in the light of the Qur’anic teachings of Surah Yusuf. The study focuses on jealousy, suspicion, feelings of deprivation, worldly interests, and weakened moral judgment as major causes of destructive rivalry. It also highlights the ethical principles presented through the characters of Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him) and Prophet Ya‘qub (peace be upon him), particularly patience, God-consciousness, forgiveness, reconciliation, trust in Allah, and positive competition in good deeds. The study concludes that Surah Yusuf provides a comprehensive ethical framework for transforming destructive rivalry into constructive competition and for promoting family harmony, social cooperation, moral development, and peaceful conflict resolution. These Qur’anic principles remain highly relevant to contemporary individual and social life.
