A study of the term (althiqa/trustworthy) according to Abu al-Qasim al-Tabarani through his books “Al-Mu’jam Al-Awsat” and “Al-Mu’jam Al-Saghir”

Abstract

This article revolves around the words of Imam al-Tabarani about the narrators of hadith, especially his use of the word (althiqa) trustworthy, and similar words in his books Al-Mu’jam Al-Awsat and Al-Mu’jam Al-Saghir. I had mention Imam Al-Tabarani’s approach to documenting the narrators. Of course, these two books are considered the collection of strange hadiths. Al-Tabarani mentioned reliability of some narrators, and sometimes he mentions about the narrators’ names, nicknames, and genealogies as well.

I mentioned the position of Imam al-Tabarani among the scholars of al-Jarh and al-Ta’deel, and I studied about the term (althiqa) trustworthy according to the scholars of al-Jarh and al-Ta’deel, and according to Imam al-Tabarani. I reached that trustworthy narrator according to Imam al-Tabarani are divided into five types; so among them are those who are trusted according to the imams of al-Jarh and al-Ta’deel, and among them are those who are truthful according others, and among them are those who are truthful and important to others, and among them are those whose status is unknown to others, and some of them are dhaeef according others. This research resulted that Imam al-Tabarani is sometimes lenient in documenting narrators, and ended with a conclusion in which I mentioned the most important results and some recommendations and suggestions.
