Tafsir Abi al-Suud, authored by the eminent Ottoman scholar Qaḍi Abu al-Suud (d. 982 AH), is regarded as one of the most refined classical Qur’anic commentaries. This study presents a research-based review of the distinctive characteristics, methodology, and exegetical style of the tafsir. The commentary reflects a balanced synthesis of tafir bi al-ma thur and tafsir bi al-dirayah, incorporating Quranic cross-references, Prophetic traditions, and the explanations of the Companions and Successors, alongside linguistic, rhetorical, and juristic analysis. Abu al-Suud demonstrates exceptional command over Arabic sciences, particularly rhetoric, syntax, and semantics, while maintaining adherence to Sunni doctrine and the Ḥanafi school of jurisprudence. The study highlights his cautious treatment of Israiliyyat, systematic preference among variant opinions, and emphasis on Quranic coherence and eloquence. Furthermore, the paper examines his approach to legal rulings, causes of revelation, abrogation, and poetic evidence. The research concludes that Tafsir Abi al-Suud occupies a distinguished position in Quranic exegesis due to its intellectual depth, stylistic elegance, and methodological balance.
