This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the life, scholarly contributions, and intellectual methodology of the eminent Islamic scholar Allama Ghulam Rasool Saeedi. The first part of the research explores his biography in detail, including his birth in Delhi in 1937, migration to Pakistan, early struggles, and his pursuit of religious knowledge. It highlights his educational journey, distinguished teachers, and his significant role in teaching Hadith and Islamic sciences in various renowned institutions of Pakistan.
The study further examines his scholarly activities, including his contributions to teaching, research, writing, and participation in academic and religious discussions. Special attention is given to his influence on contemporary Islamic thought through his writings, public lectures, and membership in the Council of Islamic Ideology. His refusal to accept a judicial position despite repeated offers also reflects his dedication to academic and scholarly pursuits.
The second part of the research focuses on his monumental exegesis, Tibyan al-Qur’an, analysing its methodology, characteristics, and scholarly significance. It discusses the reasons behind its compilation, its position among contemporary Urdu exegeses, and its balanced approach between brevity and detail. The study highlights his method of integrating classical and modern scholarship, addressing contemporary issues, and maintaining academic integrity and respect in scholarly disagreements.
Moreover, the research elaborates on the distinctive features of his tafsir, including its comprehensive treatment of linguistic, juristic, theological, and contemporary issues, along with a clear and accessible translation style. His reliance on both transmitted and rational proofs, as well as his avoidance of polemical language, reflects a refined and balanced scholarly approach.
In conclusion, this study demonstrates that Allama Ghulam Rasool Saeedi’s contributions represent a significant intellectual legacy in the fields of Qur’anic exegesis, Hadith studies, and Islamic scholarship, making his works a valuable resource for researchers and students alike.
