Abstract

This study examines the role of morphological derivation in expanding and enriching meaning in the Hadith, with particular focus on weak (muʿtall), hamzated (mahmūz), and doubled (muḍaʿaf) verbs. It aims to demonstrate how derivational patterns in Arabic morphology contribute to semantic precision, rhetorical depth, and contextual variation within the Hadith. Adopting a descriptive-analytical and applied methodology, the research analyzes selected Hadith texts to explore how morphological transformations—such as vowel alternation, consonantal modification, assimilation, and pattern shifts—affect meaning construction and interpretive nuance.

The study highlights that derivational variation is not merely a structural linguistic feature, but a semantic tool that enhances clarity, intensifies meaning, indicates continuity or reciprocity, and reflects subtle contextual distinctions. Special attention is given to the semantic implications of morphological changes in weak, hamzated, and doubled verbs, as these categories often exhibit complex phonological and semantic interactions.

The findings reveal that derivation in Hadith discourse functions as a dynamic mechanism for semantic expansion, reinforcing the expressive power and linguistic precision of Prophetic speech. The study ultimately underscores the importance of integrating morphological analysis into Hadith studies, linguistic interpretation, and Islamic scholarship to achieve deeper textual understanding.
