The novel is a comprehensive prose narrative that weaves fictional or realistic characters and events into a sequential story. As the largest narrative genre, it boasts considerable size, diverse characterizations and a wide range of events. Emerging in 18th-century Europe, the novel has evolved into a highly influential literary genre. The social novel is a fictional literary novel that focuses on the varieties of human behavior in society and reflection of characters on the values of that society. Its debates the social problems prevailing in the age and culture such as: religion, gender, race, social classes, racism etc. Social novels may discuss more complex topics equally: labour, unemployment, poverty, slavery, violence against women, child labour, high crime, family life, marriage, love, civic and rural life, education and illiteracy, ignorance, bribery, moderation and hospitality.
