Keywords:
literary translation, literal, strategies, paraphrasingAbstract
Literary translation is assessed one of the most important branches of translation that have an effect upon science, creativity, and innovation to a large extent. This is caused by the precise and exact understanding of the inferred culture in the soul of the literary text, which demands the translator to follow the original text or to resort to paraphrasing in order to protect the spirit of the text and its aesthetic and cultural references. There are various strategies that the translator depends on in this context, and there is an impact of literal strategy and adaptation strategy on the top of these strategies. Though, both of them have benefits and shortcomings, and they differ according to the nature of the text, the target audience, and the targets of the translation. The main objective of this study is to help the reader to understand the manifestations of literary translation between the word to word and paraphrasing strategies in the theory of "Antoine Berman", who is one of the advocates of literal translation and the theory of "Yujin Nida" from the advocates of paraphrasing theory. In this research, we will provide a brief overview of the most important theories, which is a comprehensive study that does not exist in any form of problematic views for the many theoretical ideas and concepts that are integrated in every direction.
