Maḥmūd Ḥasan al-Jāsim is a Syrian writer and novelist who has written many novels. The novel reflects society that expresses its concerns and issues and is concerned with addressing its problems of all kinds. It is a means of expressing the reality of society with its pains and hopes and carries through its pages and chapters the characteristics and features of life. The Syrian crisis is the largest crisis in the world at the present time due to wars and internal conflicts and represents a unique blend of security and humanitarian concerns that are closely and comprehensively interconnected.
Maḥmūd Ḥasan al-Jāsim presented in his novel (Maryam’s Displacement) a depiction of Syrian society and humanitarian issues, and a drawing of the events and problems of his society. He was affected by his keen observations as if he were a spokesman for the people who suffer from manifestations of injustice, corruption, poverty and deprivation. This study aims to shed light on the negative effects on families in war zones or those displaced by war after losing their homes and shelter in light of the story of Maryam’s Displacement, following the descriptive approach, and refers to the humanitarian crisis and the security situation in Syria and the suffering of refugees who live in crowded camps where it is difficult to obtain sufficient food and water in addition to hospitals and schools, and they find themselves left in an unsafe environment. It also refers to addressing the serious and complex issues related to refugees.
This study includes an introduction, two chapters, and a conclusion. The first chapter deals with the author’s biography, the origins of the Arabic novels, and its development. The second chapter presents a summary of the novel Maryam’s displacement and addresses its themes and issues. The conclusion includes the important results that it has reached.
