Abstract

Jabra Ibrahim Jabra left his homeland of Palestine twice. Once when he ventured to England in the pursuit if his own higher education and once to escape the bloody conflict that his home had been caught in, forcing him to go to Iraq where he eventually settled down and dedicated himself to his academic, literary and critical analyses projects.

Despite his geographical distance from Palestine, Jabra Ibrahim Jabra never identified himself as anything or anyone other than a Palestinian. Indeed, this strong sense of personal identity is reflected in his novels and the characters in them that serve as living metaphors of Palestinian resistance against occupation. A common theme among these characters is a deep sadness that does not let their souls heal from what they have suffered by reliving their trauma over and over again.

Reading between the lines of his works, we come to the understanding that this man has dedicated his pen to the Palestinian identity. A common goal shared by most Jabra Ibrahim Jabra’s protagonists is to return home and join the resistance against the oppression of their people. This study will aim to explore different features of Palestinian identity in Jabra Ibrahim Jabra’s novels.
