Abstract

This research paper explains the origins of the term "Islamic literature", its precise definition and the critical ideas it stands for, its current trends, and its connection to Arabic literature. The contents of Islamic literature have been known since the revelation. The holy Quran itself and the Prophet's Sunnah are regarded as two of the best examples of Islamic literature's constituent parts. The late Indian scholar Abu Al-Hassan Al-Nadwi first used the term "Islamic Literature" in 1984 AD when he announced the establishment of the International Islamic Literature Association. If Islamic literature did exist at this and later stages, one might wonder why the term did not emerge with a clear definition or why critique books, which are abundant, did not address it until the final few decades of this century. Thus, the introduction of the at that time was superfluous, but a cursory glance at our modern world reveals that we are living in a time of brands, coalitions, demands, and catchphrases. There is not any doubt that we live in a "Literary Media" age. It was crucial for the intended literature to be identified by its content and language as literature evolved into a media banner serving doctrines, ideologies, politics, trends, and calls. Islamic literature was born in the embrace of Arabic literature. Consequently, Arabic literature was not rejected by Islamic literature; rather, it was improved and recognized for its positive qualities. Instead of being exclusive and rupturing, the relationship is one of continuity with trimming and refinement.
