Interrelationship of Social and Economic Security: In the light of Madina's brotherhood and Charter of Madina
Keywords:
social security, economic development, Holy Prophet (P.b.U.H), Medina’s brotherhood, Treaty of MadinaAbstract
Social and economic development goes hand-in-hand. When society provides a socially favorable environment and security to individuals, then individuals become useful members of the society. On the other hand, if individuals consider themselves socially insecure, they will not be able to show their best abilities. It is the responsibility of state to ensure the social development of its people so that the economic development can also improve. When the Muslims migrated from Makah to Medina, there was a danger that their social conditions would deteriorate due to the new environment and the lack of equipment. Realizing this danger, The Holy Prophet(P.B.U.H)established a bond of brotherhood between the emigrants and residents of Madina. At first, emigrants improved their social conditions using resident’s means of livelihood but soon they were on their own feet. In order to improve their social and economic condition, a treaty was made in Medina so that the monopoly of the Jews in Medina was renewed and they could not take away their social and economic rights. Time proved that the Madinah’s brotherhood and the Charter of Madina not only led to the improvement of the social conditions of the Muslims but also became a means of improving their economic conditions.
