Maulana Obaidullah Sindhi’s Theory of Nationalism

Abstract

This paper aims to understand and analyze Maulana Obaidullah Sindhi’s formulation of Nationalism, Maulana Obaidullah Sindhi, arguably, is one of the most dynamic luminary of Twentieth century Muslim South Asia. He got the opportunity to keenly observe the social and political upheavals and revolutions of the Twentieth century. He participated in the struggle for the freedom of united India and remained in exile for twenty-four years. His theory of nationalism therefore is based on ground realities of history and politics rather than idealistic and imaginative elements. This paper delineates clearly Maulana Sindhi’s concept of nationalism and indicates its differences with the more popular and widespread notions of nationalism.
