Satire and Society, its history and motives
Abstract
Satire is a literary genre of the visual and performing arts, usually in the form of fiction and less frequently non-fiction, in which vices ,follies , abuses and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, with the intent of shaming or exposing the perceived flaws of individuals, corporations, government, or society itself into improvement. Although satire is generally intended to be funny, its greatest purpose is usually socially constructive criticism, using the adverb to draw attention to specific or general issues in society. It has appeared in several civilizations, so the Greeks used it in their writing and it took on the Arabs a poetic form. The aim of this study is to highlight the literary genre of satire, its history, motives and various kinds. The research methodology applied in this article is descriptive and analytical.
