Abstract

Sheikh Ubaidullah Multani is one of the eminent scholars of the Indian subcontinent. He was born in 1808 AH and died in 1888 AH. It was the time of British imperialism in the subcontinent. No doubt it was an era of decline for Muslims of these lands. Sheikh Ubaidullah Multani wrote many books to bring reform in the Muslim community and played his role to bring about the supremacy of Islam. He wrote in three languages: Arabic, Persian and Srikie; the latter being the common and local language of the Sheikh’s province. This article will shed light on his efforts for Islam and Muslims.

The article will be divided into three parts. In first part we will discuss the personality of Sheikh Ubaidullah Multani and the second part will be about his academic works and the third will be about his explanatory notes on the holy Quran.
