The word bai is an Arabic word which means buying and selling. According to Islamic Shari'ah, exchange of wealth for wealth by joint permission is called bai. It has always been a component part of human life as it is a natural need of man. Islam has given very good and complete rules about business and trading relations which are present in the quran and hadith.
Trading is the sunnah of the Rasulullah (ﷺ). It has been very important in the hadiths. The Sahaba also used to trade and engage in various professions for demand of halal rizq. In the hadiths the demand for rizq halal has been ordered and forbidden from the demand of haram even though the suspect has been ordered to avoid. Hazrat luqman said: do not give up the world at all, otherwise your family will become a burden on the shoulders of the people. And Hazrat Esa said: Allah loves the man who learns a profession so that he doesn’t need people.
