Abstract

The success of a society greatly rely on the durability of the relation of its individual members,So family make up the basic unit of a society,which provides the avenue for introduction of such relationships among the individual members.“Family” is the social institution that arises as a result of a marriage contract between a man and a woman and from this a family is formed. Nikah is a commitment and agreement between a man and a woman to live together as husband and wife. In Islam, Marriage is mandatory to complete one-half of the Muslim faith. And this marital relationship is not limited to satisfying the human desires, but rather it is part of the people’s responsibility as a caliph on earth and also serves the purpose of  the continuity of the human race. Islam considers “Nikah” as a highly religious , holy and spiritual relationship which sustains and generates love, kindness, mercy, compassion and mutual confidence.Islam considers the family and calls for preserving it and protecting the rights of its parties, and formulates peace and harmony in society by creating peace among its individuals. The objective of this article is to determine the importance of Marriage contract in Islam ,The rights and the responsibilities if spouses in the light of Quran and the Sunnah of Holy Prophet PBUH.
