Injunctions pertaining to the recitation of Qira’at-e-Sab’aa, Qira’at-e- Salasa and Qira,at-e- Shazz during Salah In the view of four major schools of thoughts
Abstract
Allah almighty revealed the holy Quran to Prophet (SAW) for the guidance of entire humanity, and He made the recitation of the holy Quran a means of earning reward and an essential part of prayer (namaz). Therefore recitation of Quran is an integral part of Salah, without which Salah is not accepted. As the holy Qur'an was revealed in the dialect of Quraish, some of the Arab tribes found it difficult to read because their dialects were different. By the command of Allah, the holy Prophet (SAW) taught Qur'an to these tribes in their dialects and allowed them to read the holy Quran in their own dialects, so the people of his Ummah could recite it with easement. In this article we have discussed the commandments of Shariah about reciting different recitations (Qira’at) during prayer. Qira’at-e-Saba were allowed by the all jurists of the four schools of thought, although they said that one should recite the holy Quran in those dialects which are known to people but on the other side Imams (experts in knowledge of tajweed and Qira’at) said that we can recite any Qira’at which was allowed by Prophet SAW. There are three more recitation styles known as Qira’at-e- Salasa. According to most jurists, it is permissible to recite these Qira’at in prayer, while according to some other jurists, it is not permissible. There are four dialects of recitation known as Qira’at-e-Shaaz and they are not allowed by all jurists and scholar of Qira’at. This article is based on those debates related to Quranic recitation, their dialects and the differences among the jurists and the scholars of Qira’aat.
