Abstract

It is worth mentioning that mysticism or Sufism and Islamic Tasawwuf are two separate ideas. No any authentic scholar of Islam has mentioned the term Sufism or Mysticism in their writings nor the earliest Sufis ever used the terms Sufism or Mysticism in their writings. Moreover, the earliest sufis also neither studied Greek, Hindi, Christian and Jewish Sufism nor ever they availed their philosophical terms and views. However, the terms Mysticism and Sufism were coined in eighteenth century by Western colonial powers in order to damage the Islam. The Suffix “ism” refers to a theory, doctrine, religion which introduced into English language through Italian language.
Some academics contend that Tasawwuf is less likely to be influenced by other faiths. It's more Islamic in nature. Because Sufis derive their roots from Islamic doctrine. Tasawwuf is a manner of engaging in religious spirituality while adhering to the guidelines of Islamic doctrine. The “ism” is a body of ideas that incorporates influences from a number of other religions. However, there is significant distinction between mysticism, sufism, and Islamic tasawwuf.
