Critical Analysis of Multiverse Hypothesis Regarding Beginning of Universe with special Reference to “The Fallacy of Fine Tuning”: An Islamic Perspective

Abstract

Atheism is a major topic of contention in academic circles. At the beginning of 21st century, a radical movement of atheism called neo-atheism began. Victor John Stenger is considered as a potential writer amongst new- atheists. Amongst his various writings, “The Fallacy of Fine Tuning” became the focus of attention of religious as well as non-religious forums. In aforementioned book, Stenger denies fine tuning by arguing that the universe is not fine-tuned for us but instead we are fine tuned to our particular universe. Adding to it, he asserts that Multiverse is a legitimate scientific hypothesis and presence of life is not due to some intelligent designer, universe is not designed, hence there is no Intelligent Designer. In arguing so, he claims that the observations of science and our senses shows no evidence for the God and it provide evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that God does not exist.
He argues for Natural Selection as a standardized version of Biological Evolution. Moreover, he criticized intervening God responsible for the beginning of universe and point out that transformation from nothing to existence is plausible and it does not violates laws of physics.
The purpose of this critical review is to examine above mentioned views. Using content analysis of selected work in the book “The Fallacy of Fine Tuning”, main views of Victor J Stenger about God, Multiverse and Fine tuning are commented in the light of Islamic Thought.
