Abstract

The concept of Islamic Shari'ah, which implies that Islam provides the framework for governance, is referred to as Iqamat-e-Deen. This idea was prominently propagated by the great scholar Maulana Seyed Ab-ul-Ala Maududi in the modern era. It encompasses the implementation of Islam in all aspects of life, whether at an individual level, collectively as a movement, or in the service of Islam itself, and represents the true essence of Islam.

Throughout history, Muslims have fervently served and struggled to implement Islam, whether they were in positions of power or under subjugation. Even during times of slavery, Islam managed to spread and attract many non-Muslims to its fold. The period of oppression also served as an opportunity for the oppressed to witness the principles of Islam up close. Similarly, when Muslims rose to power, Islam had the freedom to propagate without hindrance. The subcontinent has witnessed Muslim rule for many centuries, starting with the arrival of Muhammad bin Qasim as a precursor to subsequent Muslim kings who declared it a land of Islam. In the following lines, these references are revisited to explore new perspectives on this thought.
